Kosi 2 Cape

We are two motivated young guides, working in the safari industry. We are surrounded by like-minded people who are conservation-orientated and willing to commit to saving the natural world. There are many different land-based projects going on to preserve wildlife in Southern Africa, and it is motivating to see how many people truly care about protecting some of the most vital species still around. There seem to be a lot of projects and efforts going into the conservation of rhinos. elephant and lions, Big 5 animals, that many people travel to Africa to see.

Our plan is to do something different. We have opted to raise funds for marine turtles and penguins simply because there are very few organisations supporting these animals in this part of the world and because these species are struggling to survive in the oceans just as others are on the continent itself.

The Plan

We plan to cycle along the South African coast from Kosi Bay to Cape Point, starting in December 2017, a journey of over 2000 kilometers that will likely take between three and four weeks. We will be promoting our cause before and during our cycle in order to raise as many funds as possible. All the proceeds will be donated directly to Two Oceans Aquarium Cape Town and SANCCOB’s penguin conservation center.

We specifically want to raise enough money to fund one (or even two) satellite collars that can be fitted to a turtle in order to track its progress and movement after it has been re-released into the wild. The other half of the funds will go to the ‘de-oiling’, rehab and release of African penguins.
